Canyon Table - Work in Progress
I designed this table in 2D using Illustrator, then built scale model from laser cut wood (first image above). I cut out the feet with the new CNC router. It didn't go well - the router kept jumping out of the track destroying the piece it was cutting. I tried many different feed rates and router speeds. In the end, I decided to race the CNC with my jigsaw. I built a fixture to hold a permanent marker (instead of the router), and used the CNC as a plotter to draw the components on 4' x 8' plywood. Cutting with the jigsaw was substantially faster, quieter, and less dusty that the CNC. So in the end, I cut all but the feet with the jigsaw. This was followed by endless days of sanding, routing corners, and finally assembly with screws and glue. I finished it with 17 coats of clear acrylic finish so it will stand up to the wear of feet resting against it. See March 2023 for views the final piece.
